The link between EDCs and cancer

There is a lot of strong evidence to connect the risk in incidence rates of certain types of cancer which are hard to explain by other variables alone. Since the 1970’s research that has identified a link between exposure to endocrine disrupts and breast cancer.

Oestrogen is a risk factor for breast cancer because this particular hormone plays an important role in cell multiplication, and endocrine disruptors are known to have the ability to mimic the actions of hormones and can disrupt the actions of oestrogen responsive cells in breast tissue, causing them to multiply more rapidly.
