Environmental Medical Science
Medical practice in the West has seen enormous advances in recent decades, but notwithstanding its many and varied successes, there seems little doubt that there is an increase in a wide spectrum of difficult to treat conditions ranging from food and inhalant allergies, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD), gastro intestinal illnesses (including IBS), chronic fatigue and immune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis. Even more serious is the inexorable increase in cancers and diseases of the brain:
- The World Health Organisation reported a doubling of childhood cancers since 1975; and an almost four fold increase in breast cancer.
- The largest increase in cancer incidence rates by age is now in the 0-24 age range.
- Dementia has overtaken coronary artery disease as the number one killer in the west of women.
Whilst the underlying causes of these difficult to treat conditions, both life threatening and life debilitating, may be unproven, what is not in dispute is that the increase in these conditions is real and that in some at least, environmental factors are implicated. It is against this backdrop that new approaches are needed to provide more effective remedies and better management.
Lastinghealth’s pledge is to seek out the best science and to inform its clients accordingly. There may be many factors that contribute to an individual's susceptibility to environmental toxicity and a completely accurate risk assessment of these multiple factors is not currently achievable. Nonetheless, in identifying potentially toxic substances in the body clients may make informed choices over diet, exercise and perhaps equally important, avoidance of potentially toxic products. Lastinghealth's partners include Science Policy Compass, a bio ethics consultancy; and scientific advisers from academia. Lastinghealth’s bio ethics policy can be found here.
Certified Testing Laboratories
Lastinghealth have partnered with two of the leading international laboratories in the field of sample testing. The laboratories are fully accredited under GMP(Good Manufacturing Practice) and the FDA (Federal Drug Administration) regulations in the USA.
Our laboratory partners have many years of experience in the field of sample testing which enables the client information produced to be communicated in the context of a wide population of sample-derived data. The value of this for our clients is that they can understand their results, whether high or low, as they relate to other individuals in the population.
